12/20 Daily Quest

Tom tells us that the average is not good enough in this growing world. We can revamp this average by starting with education. This is necessary because jobs need more and more ingenuity, needs people to think on their feet. Students in school today can solve their school problems with formulas. Memorization, homework, multiple choice. The real world is no where near as predictable as every day in school. If I can enter a math classroom, pick up the book and learn the lesson while doing today's homework, the teacher becomes melded into the background noise I tune out of everyday. There is no challenge, the predictability is written into the unit calendar, and every single calendar is built the same for not only 4 years of high school, but all of my previous years of schooling ever. The most problem solving I have done is in the Mac Lab, and I am still convinced I have just brushed the surface.
Decision making in young minds don't develop fully until they are 25 years of age. But what children do have, that few get to claim, is the immense imagination and creativity. Who else can run around all day, entertaining themselves with little but their plastic dolls (or action figures)? The first world is gravely mistaken to loose courage in the god-given gift of creativity in young minds. School should challenge the imagination, and work up a passion for knowledge in the youth of tomorrow.
